The Sweetness of Freedom

Background: The Freedom Monument is a memorial honouring soldiers killed during the Latvian War of Independence (1918–1920). Unveiled in 1935, this 138 feet high monument often serves as the focal point of public gatherings and official ceremonies.

Foreground: a fragment of “Laima Clock” (erected in 1924; since 1936 decorated with the name and logotype of the country’s largest confectionery manufacturer, “Laima”).
